History of Ballinger Junior High's NJHS Chapter

Our chapter was granted in the spring of 2002 with 32 members.  In 2003 we added 22 new members, and in 2004 we added 18 more members.  The chapter averages nearly 35 members per year.  Currently we have 21 7th & 8th graders, and we are looking forward to the spring semester to induct more members.

Purpose of Ballinger Junior High's NJHS Chapter

The main purpose of NJHS is to recognize students for their scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship.  Through NJHS they are encouraged to continue their academic excellence, develop in character, grow in their leadership skills, serve others, and become responsible citizens.

Service Projects of Ballinger Junior High's NJHS Chapter

Our chapter does at least one service project in the fall and at least one in the spring as a group.  In years past, members have helped put up the lights at the courthouse, scatter eggs for the county wide Easter Egg Hunt, worked the Ethnic Festival booth, assisted at the Hunter's Meal and helped at the Taste of Ballinger, and Pennies for Patients  This year we will be making fleece tied lap blankets for the Veteran's Hospital.

Besides these group projects, each member is asked to do 10 hours of volunteer service for the community each year on their own.  Some of the projects they have worked on have included helping at summer school and vacation Bible schools and many more.

With a total of 21 members this year with 10 hours of service per person, this would be 210 hours of community service.  In a world where so many people are only out to serve themselves, this encourages action for others.  I think many have learned it is very rewarding to volunteer their time without expecting pay.
